Physical and Mental problems related to Furnitureadmin
Furniture immensely affects human beings as they are in physical touch with the furniture. It is not only the physical problem which is associated with the furniture but psychological problems are also associated to it.
Repetitive Strain Injuries
The blending of high technology in the office and factory environment has created workplaces where repetitive motions are common.
Repetitive Strain Injuries or RSl’s are a general class of disorders resulting from strain to shoulders, arms, hands and sometimes the back. RSI is also referred to as Overuse Syndrome.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is one of the most common RSl’s. There are nine flexor tendons, which are trapped, in an unyielding fiber and bone tunnel in the wrist. These tendons become irritated when the hands are held at an awkward angle during long periods of repetitive use such as data entry or otherwise. If the tendons become inflamed and swollen, the median nerve is compressed and numbness, tingling and pain result.
We spend a lot of time in sitting and doing various activities. If the sitting posture is not comfortable, it can lead to backache. It is a fact that there is no cure for back pains except painkillers and bed rest. The knowledge that backache is a warning signal of damage being done should therefore never be ignored.
If one holds the neck too long in poor alignment, it can cause severe neck pain. If one keeps the neck forward and down, forward and arched, backward and dropped, forward and turned to one side or arched backward and turned, all lead to disorders in neck, leading to pain.
Pain in shoulders & arms
A slipped or prolapsed disc in the cervical spine can result in severe pain in the shoulders, arms, and hands. Small movements can make the pain worse. If a person sits on a chair which does have an armrest, pain is bound to happen.
Pain in Mid Back
Pain in mid back is another type of pain that occurs due to unplanned or unhealthy furniture. By using a poorly designed chair or by incorrect posture coupled with stress and tension muscle strain in the mid back can occur.
Pain in Lower back
Due to lifting, bending or twisting in unusual angles, pain in the lower back can occur. This region is prone to Lumber Spondylosis, which occurs as a result of the spine undergoing certain degenerative changes.
Sitting for long hours on a badly designed chair can also force the pelvic bone to bend, leading to excruciating pain. Due to a faulty seat there can be pain in one buttock accompanied by pain in the back of the thigh.
Stress and Tension
It has been noticed that people who do not use perfect furniture suiting their body and mind, get severely affected by it. Psychological problems like stress, depression and anxiety are found to get accelerated by using improper furniture.
